Jonathan Bailey is stealing the spotlight in the upcoming season of Bridgerton as his character, Anthony, finds his viscountess. The 33-year-old English actor gained critical acclaim for his role on the hit Netflix series, but he has been acting since a young age. Bailey's career began on the stage, starring in various productions such as A Christmas Carol, Company, and King Lear. He has since ventured into musical theater, TV, and movies.
Bailey's love for acting began at the age of five when he saw a performance of Oliver! He knew he wanted to be on stage and got his big break at age seven in the Royal Shakespeare Company production of A Christmas Carol. He has since appeared in numerous theater productions, including American Psycho and King Lear, earning him the 2019 Laurence Olivier Award for best actor in a supporting role in a musical.
Aside from his role in Bridgerton, Bailey currently stars opposite Taron Egerton in Cock. He first auditioned for the part of Anthony Bridgerton while starring in the West End revival of Company in 2018 and found out he got the role on his 31st birthday.
In season 2 of Bridgerton, Bailey is joined by Simone Ashley as his onscreen love interest. Interestingly, they had previously worked together on the British crime drama, Broadchurch. Outside of acting, Bailey revealed in an interview that he would have pursued a career as a primary school teacher, considering all teachers to be modern-day heroes. He finds watching the next generation grow up and being a part of their education to be something special.
