Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn revealed that the club went to their financial limits to sign Erling Haaland last summer, but decided against breaking their wage structure. Haaland instead joined Manchester City for an initial £51.2million and has since become one of the most lethal strikers in Europe.

Bayern are currently competing with Haaland's former side Dortmund for the Bundesliga title, while City are challenging for a historic treble. Bayern lost to City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, with Haaland scoring twice. They also fell short in the German Cup and changed managers in March.
