House of Lee, an anime series based on the life and legend of martial arts icon Bruce Lee, has released its first teaser. The preview, directed by Emily Yang, co-founder of Shibuya, gives viewers a glimpse into the action and fantasy-filled world of the show. House of Lee follows Bruce Lee as he assembles a team of Dragon Warriors to save the world from darkness and shadow, drawing inspiration from Lee's quote, "Those who are unaware they are walking in darkness will never seek the light." A full trailer will be released later this year to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Lee's acclaimed film, Enter the Dragon, with the series itself set to premiere in 2024.
The series is created by Shannon Lee, Bruce Lee's daughter, who is also a producer. Shannon expressed her excitement about the possibilities that anime provides for telling a creative story about her father, and chose to partner with Shibuya based on their previous work together. Yang, the director, was drawn to the project because it resonated with her on a personal level, touching on themes of spirituality, battling inner demons, and the Asian American and Pacific Islander experience.
Shannon Lee, an executive producer on the martial arts crime drama Warrior, currently airing its third season, has been involved in various projects about her father, including documentaries and acting roles in films. House of Lee is set to be released in 2024, while Enter the Dragon will return to theaters for its 50th anniversary later this year.
