NCIS creator Don Bellisario was determined to cast Michael Weatherly as Tony DiNozzo, despite the actor being busy filming in Australia. Weatherly was playing Robert Wagner in the ABC series The Mystery of Natalie Wood at the time. Bellisario flew to Australia to dinner with Weatherly and later Wagner joined the cast of NCIS as DiNozzo's father. Wagner’s character had a difficult relationship with his son but they were able to work on their issues. NCIS can be watched on CBS and Disney+.
