Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey star in Showtime's limited series Fellow Travelers, set during the Lavender Scare in 1952. Bomer plays Hawkins Fuller, a charismatic man with a political career, while Bailey portrays Tim Laughlin, a newcomer raised with religious faith. The teaser shows the secret couple engaging in a torrid love affair against the backdrop of Senator Joseph McCarthy's moral crusade.

The series follows the lives of five main characters, including Hawk, Tim, Marcus, Lucy, and Frankie, over four decades during significant historical events like the Vietnam War protests and the AIDS crisis. Creator Ron Nyswaner explains that the series juxtaposes different time frames to illustrate the consequences of choices made.
