I still remember the moment John Abbott died on The Young and the Restless. I cried like I had lost a real friend. For those of us who grew up watching Genoa City’s greatest patriarch, Jerry Douglas wasn’t just playing John—he was John. His calm presence, his wisdom, and his unwavering love for his family grounded the entire Abbott legacy.
But while the fictional world of Y&R moved on, Jerry’s real-life story continued to resonate with fans, especially through his devoted wife of over 36 years, Kym Douglas.
And now, Kym has written a new chapter of her life—one that brought unexpected joy, a few happy tears, and a deep sense of hope for all of us who believe in second chances.
This past weekend, at the age of 66, Kym Douglas married Tim Robertson—yes, the son of The 700 Club founder, Pat Robertson—in a stunning ceremony at Bel-Air Church. The event, described as “nothing short of heavenly,” wasn’t just a celebration of love. It was a moment of healing, of honoring the past while embracing a future built on faith, resilience, and enduring companionship.
Surrounded by children, family, and dear friends, Kym and Tim stood before God and vowed to begin again. It was deeply moving for anyone who knows what Kym has endured—losing the love of her life in 2021 and then surviving cancer not long after. And yet there she was, radiant, full of grace, and glowing in the kind of peace that only comes from walking through fire and still choosing love.
For us Y&R fans, what made the day even more powerful was the presence—and words—of Tracey E. Bregman, who has played Lauren Fenmore for decades and shared many memorable scenes with Jerry on-screen. But off-screen, Tracey is more than a colleague—she’s one of Kym’s dearest friends and cohosts of the God’s Table podcast.
In a heartfelt tribute, Tracey wrote:
“Kym and Tim, your love story is an inspiration to us all. May your journey together be filled with God’s richest blessings, unshakable joy, and a love that grows deeper with each passing day.
”
She described the ceremony as “a blessing” and “divinely orchestrated,” and her words moved many fans—including myself—to tears. To see our Y&R family show up for one another like this, even decades later, reminds me why I fell in love with this show in the first place. It’s always been about connection, loyalty, and the strength of relationships.
Cristina Ferrare, another close friend, stood as Maid of Honor. Tim’s son, the respected Hollywood producer Willis Robertson, was Best Man.
The families united in a way that felt almost scripted—except this was real life, and it was even more beautiful than anything in a soap opera.
There was a line from the book of Isaiah read at the wedding that I still can’t stop thinking about:
“Not one will lack her mate. For it is His mouth that has given the order, and His Spirit will gather them together.” – Isaiah 34:16
It felt written just for Kym.
Kym Douglas may have only appeared briefly on The Young and the Restless, but through Jerry, she has always been a part of our show's legacy. Watching her smile again after everything she’s endured—it brings a rare kind of joy. It reminds us that grief doesn't get the final word. Love does.
As fans, we’ve followed stories of heartbreak and redemption onscreen for years. But Kym’s real-life story? It’s one of the most touching of all. And it deserves to be celebrated.
To Kym and Tim: thank you for showing us that it’s never too late to begin again.
To Y&R fans: Do you remember Jerry’s most powerful John Abbott moments? Or the day Kym appeared to honor him on the show? I’d love to hear what touched your heart most.
Let’s share in the joy together below. Because when one member of the Y&R family finds happiness again—we all do.
