The reimagining of Sherlock Holmes continues with the announcement of a new series titled Young Sherlock, set to be directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin. Over the past few years, there have been several TV and movie adaptations that have attempted to bring a fresh perspective to the iconic detective, including Netflix's Enola Holmes and the upcoming CBS medical drama Watson. The short-lived Netflix series The Irregulars also explored a different angle on the Holmes universe.

Young Sherlock will consist of eight episodes and will be available on Prime Video.

The series is based on the Young Sherlock novels by Andy Lane, which present an action-focused origin story of the legendary detective. In this adaptation, a 19-year-old Sherlock Holmes becomes entangled in a murder mystery at Oxford University, which ultimately leads to a conspiracy that changes his life forever.

Matthew Parkhill, known for his work on the series Deep State and Rogue, will serve as the writer and showrunner of Young Sherlock. Ritchie, who has previously directed films starring Robert Downey Jr.

as Holmes, promises a fresh and exhilarating take on the character in this new series. He stated that audiences will see Sherlock in a way they've never imagined before, hinting at a reimagined version of the beloved fictional detective.

The announcement of Young Sherlock marks a reunion for Ritchie and Tiffin, who previously collaborated on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
